KNOWN AS THE ‘GATEWAY TO MT WHITNEY’ AT THE FOOT OF THE SIERRAS AND USED OFTEN FOR MOVIE LOCATIONS, THIS AREA IS REPLETE WITH PHOTOGENIC POSSIBILITIES. DAY TWO WE’LL PHOTOGRAPH WILDFLOWERS ALONG ROCK CREEK IN THE HIGH SIERRAS. THE NEXT FOUR DAYS WE EMPHASIZE PHOTOGRAPHING THE ANCIENT BRISTLECONE PINE FOREST IN THE WHITE MOUNTAINS. LOCATED EAST OF BISHOP AND OPPOSITE THE SIERRAS (TWENTY MILES EAST OF THE HIGHWAY 395 CORRIDOR), JOHN MUIR REFERRED TO THESE GOLDEN, GNARLED TREES AS “IRREPRESSIBLY AND EXTRAVAGANTLY PICTURESQUE”. THE STUNNING VIEWS AND UNIQUE FORMS FOUND IN THIS SCENIC AREA PROVIDE RICH IMAGE-MAKING POTENTIAL FOR BLACK AND WHITE AND COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY. THE SPIRIT FOUND WITHIN THESE TREES AND IN THIS LOCATION WILL TRULY CAPTURE YOU. FOUR DAYS OF LODGING WILL BE IN THE BRISTLECONE AREA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA’S RESEARCH STATION AT CROOKED CREEK AND WHILE STAYING THERE OUR MEALS WILL BE PROVIDED.
This workshop will cover such things as ‘stronger seeing’ and visualizing the finished image, working the light, night photography and painting with light, tips on exposure and much more. All levels of photographic knowledge are welcome, any format, digital capture or film. These well-planned workshops allow for personal quiet time as well as one-on-one and group instruction. We will have an evening of image share and critique, and our workshops are known for their relaxed meal-time philosophic and techno rambles. |
